About Me

View More: http://photos.pass.us/beckymackintoshI was born in Butte, Montana and raised in Dillon, Montana on a large cattle ranch.  Raised is a stretch because my family moved from the ranch to Salt Lake City when I was only 8 years old, and I’m still mad about it. 🙂  I am the youngest of 5 children and felt a little cheated that my parents picked up and moved to the city just as I was finally old enough to participate in 4H like my older siblings.  When I people hear that I’m from Utah they ask if I’m a Mormon.   Well, yes I am, in fact, I’m a five generation Mormon.

I married my best friend Scott Mackintosh on September 22, 1983.  We have 7 children and an ever growing number of grandchildren.  I love being a mom, but I must be totally honest, being a grandmother is a lot more fun!

I’m obsessed with traveling and humanitarian work. I’ve been to India – TWICE – with the Global LifeVision team.  Click here to see highlights of my experience AND come join me when I go again!

Next on my bucket list… AFRICA!

A little more about me: I’ve had the phenomenal opportunity of working for two top speakers in the world;  Chad Hymas and Kevin Hall and through that experience I learned valuable skills and tools which unknowingly prepared me for what I currently do – SPEAK on the stage too  – who knew?  I share a message of kindness and LOVE.  God knew perfectly what I needed to learn and sent me the perfect children to teach me life’s lessons.

In 2013, I self published my first book “My Husband Wears the Short Shorts in THIS Family! Parenting with Humor, Courage and a whole lot of Love!” available on Amazon.  I’m currently working on a NEW book for parents of an LGBTQ child – coming soOn!!

One of the many lessons I have learned from being a mom is that they grow up too fast! Hug often, say I love you everyday and look for the good in every situation  …and choose HaPpY!

UPDATE!

When my husband put on those short-shorts he had no intention of leaving our house, but you read the story, life had other plans… and lessons!

Sometimes when it comes to raising kids we resort to drastic measures to teach important principles. This was one of those times. We never dreamed it would go viral — which is a blessing with more than a few little gotchas attached!

What surprised me most was how many people reached out, sharing their heartfelt stories of struggle with their own son or daughter. So many seeking advice and support and many inviting us to come SPEAK! Now, that was a surprise! But we discovered we LOVED speaking and had a universal message that the world wanted and needed to hear. THIS lead to becoming members of the National Speaker’s Association.  Visit our website Life’s Short Lessons

If you would like to stay connected and/or to book me and my husband to come speak to your organization simply fill out the form below and I’ll be in touch! OR call me at (801) 372-6277.

Hi, I must admit that I’m one of those people who came here from the viral story about the shorts. 😉 I just wanted to thank you, your caring husband, your sweet sons, and the rest of your family so much for setting an example for the whole world. Please thank them each for me personally.
I hope you never regret this situation -“going viral”- and realize that you really do have the power to change lives with your story.
I hope your daughter knows that she is a BEAUTIFUL daughter of God and one day realizes that she doesn’t need to follow the fleeting trends of the world to feel accepted or socially respected. (In fact, higher standards almost always make you more noticeable and admired, even if your peers aren’t willing to openly admit that.) I promise that this is true. I testify of it. I’ve seen it and I live it every day because I am only 19 years old. I know how hard it is to be tempted by the styles and trends of the world, but every day when I rise above those temptations it is constantly rewarding.
Thank you so much again for standing up for what’s right in a loving way. I hope you take the time to read this post and feel my sincere gratitude in it. May God continue to openly bless you for this. =)

      • Thank you Brianne for taking the time to read a few of my blog posts and to write such a sweet heartfelt message. You are wise beyond your years. Continue following your heart and being the example that you are. All the best to you in all you do. ~Becky

Becky, really great…..your husband talked about how we present ourselves to others…that has always been one of my pet peeves….how we present ourselves to others says a lot about us. I always tell others that and since I was a school counselor, I would pass that on to my high school kids, not mine personally, but….how often do we see someone on the street and they frighten us by their appearance and the thing is they might be the nicest person in the world, but how would we know? How many times have I listened to pastors talk about how young women should dress appropriately, so as to not make young men and others think things that may not be true. Anyway, I loved what your husband did…. a good laugh. And your daughter? Truly, what a beautiful young woman.

      • Brianne you are wise beyond your years. Keep up the GREAT work! Thank you for sharing you thoughts. We would love to stay connected, if you haven’t already done so please fill out the opt in box for my upcoming “Life’s Lessons” forum …Love to have you share some of your experiences in helping this generation raise the bar. All the best. ~Becky and Scott too!

You & your husband sound like fun-loving and caring parents. The few blog posts I read seem so genuine, heartfelt and of course funny. Thank you for sharing these life experiences of yours. I am in need of a bit of advice from someone like you who is further down the road of parenting than I. If you have the time, please email me & I will privately email you the issue at hand.

    6. I simply wanted to tell you that your husband’s shorts story brought me here but your amazing family kept me here for an hour or more! I don’t even know you all and I already love you! You have the family I always wished I had. I adore how close you all are and just wanted you to know that your family is wonderful! Do whatever is required to keep that connection strong. I lost my Dad last year and it was the hardest thing I have ever went through. I thank God everyday that we had so many wonderful memories together to get me through. Good luck in all you go through! 🙂 I also read the information on your daughter and her husband’s site. I have high hopes for them and know they will get the child they are meant to have. 🙂 God bless

    7. Hi Becky, Love the story about your husband going the extra steps to demonstrate to his daughter how she is perceived. She may not understand it now, but she will later. My husband and I constantly reinforced to my daughter that while what she wears may be cute to her peers or seem to be the latest fashion trend in the entertainment world, it is silently being judged by others. I remember a pastor once said, that if you are not a ‘hoochie mama’ then don’t dress like one. Thankfully over the years we have seen improvement in my daughter’s dress attire. Her enlightened exploded and driven home, when she had an internship in the business world this summer and was amazed at how some of the sales people perceived or prejudged potential clients based on their attire. She did not think it was fair. I agreed with her prejudging however, she came away with a heavy dose of understanding reality versus fairness. I let her know we all do pre-assessment the moment we meet someone and appearance is one of the factors. Love your blog. I hope one day to travel and do some mission work myself.

    8. Found you and your family because of the ‘shorts’ thing. Never ever send random messages out but just have to say how wonderful you and your husband are. The way he showed his love for his daughter was awesome and fun. I cannot help but wish to be lucky enough to have my own family one day. Yours is a true example of living and loving. I wish you well, health and happiness. I was in Utah last year for a Young Living Convention and had a great time. Sending blessings x

      Hi Becky,

I too must admit, I found your blog through the yahoo post about your husbands lesson to your daughter. WELL done!
I must say that I have poured over your blog and have enjoyed it immensely.
My husband and I would TOTALLY be your friends if we lived in Utah, as we seem to share the same values and are not afraid to speak them. We are transplants living in Kentucky and raising our 13 year old, only child son. He is AMAZING and we are so BLESSED.
I have forwarded your information about Emmanuel Kelly to our pastor, who just happens to be the best pastor in the state of Kentucky at Crossland Community Church, and we are so happy to call he and his wife our FRIENDS. I am hoping we can possibly make arrangements to have Emmanuel visit our community.
We ALL need lessons of GRACE and INSPIRATION!
I am happy to read that you enjoyed your trip to India, my brother in law recently returned from a trip to India, and like you, realized that he was richly blessed by the culture and its people.
We ALL need to visit India for LIFE LESSONS!

I look forward to checking in on your blog and reading the happenings of the Mac Family!

Thank YOU for starting off my Friday morning this way!

      Rebecca
